Summer Novas
The exploration of the female form is a recurring theme in my art, inspired by the varied expressions found in hairstyles, eyes, and fashion. I often draw inspiration from the people I encounter on my travels, whether through personal observation or browsing magazine pages. The compelling allure of the Southwest, rich with mystery and warmth, serves as a constant muse in my creative process. Tucson’s vibrant blend of color, architecture, and cultural influences provides a dynamic backdrop for my artwork.
My technique blends my diverse background in cartooning, illustration, and graphic design to craft a distinctive aesthetic. By incorporating specialty papers and unique materials, I add a special quality to my work, with each piece serving as a testament to my creative journey and artistic evolution.

The “Mod Mood” collection for the show “Summer Novas”, is a vibrant homage to the spirited fashion and cultural essence of the 1960s and early ’70s, connecting my love for that era, as well as the unique spirit I find in Borrego Springs — a quiet desert oasis with a mid-century soul. These hand-drawn portraits of women come to life through a vibrant fusion of acrylics, textured specialty papers, rich colored pencils, and soft, expressive pastels—each stroke a blend of artistry and imagination.
With this collection, I decided to revisit my illustration background, and render the facial features in a more realistic fashion, contrasted by long, flowing, highly stylized hair that dances with movement and personality. Their clothing bursts with bold mod circles, groovy floral patterns, and retro geometric shapes—each design a nod to the expressive, carefree style of the time. The color palette includes rich rust oranges, earthy sage and forest greens, punchy reds, and sunny lemon yellows—colors that evoke both nostalgia and energy. A thin white border surrounds each piece, but intentionally, elements of the illustration break past that boundary—just as the women themselves exude a sense of freedom and fun. They are confident, alluring, and full of life, channeling the optimism and flair of an innovative era in history. Through these works, I celebrate not only a moment in time, but the enduring spirit of individuality, creativity, and bold self-expression that continues to inspire me.
