PROJECT FOLK ART CATS LOTERIA
i was one of 54 artists…
chosen to participate in creating my own version of one of Don Clemente’s Loteria Mexican cards, in a call to arts in 2023. That event got me hooked on this delightful game that was developed in 1887. These Colorful and Educational Mexican Loteria cards got me to thinking, “Why not create a Cat version?” So began my journey into this colorful traditional card game similar to Bingo.

Each of the colorful cards has an image of popular Mexican figures, my version being FOLK ART CATS, with a Mexican flavor. Each card will be created as an original, then the image put on a card. The cards will have a Spanish and English title, a number and a Riddle to play. The 12 game boards will each have 16 gorgeous colorful cats on it to be played like Bingo.

A few of the cats available so far are GATO SOMBRERO - (Sombrero Cat), GATO AZUL SOBRE UNA MESA - (Blue Cat on a Table), and Patrona de los Gatitos - (Patron Saint of the Kittens).
Project completion is projected in the Spring 2025.
